DVX100 Iris Settings and Tips for Non-Lighted for Car Mount Shots
by Gary Spidell

(...continued from previous page)

Shooting From the Inside Out

Now, if you’re shooting from inside the car and getting coverage of your actors, then expose for the outside light. For example, let’s say the camera operator is sitting in the backseat of the car while shooting towards the driver and the passenger seats in front of him. In this instance, it would be more favorable to let the DVX 100 gauge the light for you by using the AUTO iris function and staying with that setting; reason being because it’s the outside light that makes up the majority of the objects in the lens.

Now, if you’re shooting your actors in a convertible, then it’s obvious that light isn’t too much of an issue. But if you have a hood mounted camera shooting through the windshield, you’d want to see: “DVX100 Exposure through Windshield and Windows”

EZ NOTE: set the DVX100 iris in AUTO mode, point it towards the actors in the front seats and lock that f-stop with the MANUAL iris mode.
