You Can't Be a Filmmaker If You've Never Made a Film

Saving up for Film School?
With the
thousands you spend on film school, you can make your movie and
still have some left over. Would you rather spend all your money
learning how to make a film or actually making a film?
Just jump in! Just do it! Before you know it, you’ll have more
practice and experience than those that are actually in film school.
Here’s another
tip: The best classroom is the world wide web. With the likes of
people behind concepts such as www.kenstone.net and the “Why Go To
Film School?” film school ebook, and dvxuser.com, the information is
limitless and you can learn anything with the help of those types of
folks. Now, with the popularity of YouTube and MySpace.tv, there are
more visual tutorials than ever before when it comes to learning how
to build your own dolly, jib, test camera footage from a DVX100,
HVX200 and a CANON XL2 for those that would like to see the visual
comparisons of the cameras.
So, I’m running
out of excuses and you’re running out of time. Here’s one more thing
I’ll leave with you:
The Robert
Rodriguez’s and Kevin Smiths’ didn’t have anything close to the
efficient technology that we have today. But they still went for it.
And they made it happen. There are a million reasons why you
shouldn’t follow your dreams. But there are just as many as to why
you should. It’s not going to be easy and don’t listen to the
negativity that may follow. If you’re really passionate about
filmmaking or anything else for that matter – just go for it. Do it.
I’m glad that the DIY pioneers had enough guts to go for it, because
if they didn’t, then I wouldn’t have had the inspiration to make my
own film. Today, my movie is currently in post production and if all
goes well, you’ll be reading about it sooner than later. Even if you
don’t, maybe I’ll be reading about yours.
No more excuses.
Follow your dreams and have fun with it. Break a leg!
